By the result of Hille and Perling, full exceptional collections in the derived category of a del Pezzo surface determine toric surfaces. These toric surfaces appear as Q-Gorenstein degenerations of the given del Pezzo surface. In this talk, we present the nontrivial combinatorics between toric degenerations and full exceptional collections, and discuss our ongoing attempts to associate these two different subjects.
