All living creatures like us are remarkable, complicated systems. Systems biology is an interdisciplinary field of mathematics, computer science, and biology. It explores the underlying principles of biological processes and helps us to better understand the phenomenon of life at systems level. Systems biology advances the arrival of a new era that makes it possible to control and manipulate biological systems and to even design artificial biological systems. In this seminar, I will introduce two examples of systems biology-based research: Modeling gene expression of a fly gene even-skipped and hemophilia-related human F9 gene. In addition, we will discuss the application of systems biology to medicine and its impact on ethical and social issues.
