In quantum information processing using photons, connections between distant quantum sources are required to construct the quantum network system. For the quantum network, the key elements are generation of quantum light, quantum interference, and temporal control of photons. The overall configuration of the elements must take into account the temporal linewidth of the source, the resolutions of the measurement detector, and distortion free temporal control of photons. Here, the atomic ensemble can generate quantum light through atom-light interaction and enables time control of the photons. The characteristics of the generated photons and light manipulation include time-resolvable properties for detector and arrival time control of photons with low-distortion. In this presentation, we will introduce the research for generation, interference, and control of non-classical photons using atomic ensembles for realization of quantum networks.
