Abstract: The subject matter is graded rings and their Proj. There will be approx 6 lectures split over the two periods Mon 5th-Tue 6th Oct and Mon 12th-Tue 13th Oct. The first week will be introductory, and includes basic methods and classical examples, including several important classes of curves, surfaces and 3-folds. Eventually we get to harder cases that illustrate the problems with taking classical ideas further. The second week will concentrate on the theory of unprojection and its many applications in birational geometry.
Literature: My website + Surfaces contains lots of references, basic entry points include ECM4 and Graded rings. A lot of material on complete intersections on wPPs is contained in A. R. Iano-Fletcher: Working with weighted complete intersections, that you can find online.
