In this talk, I will introduce the notion of a transverse foliation of a closed three-manifold, which is a gadget to study global qualitative behaviour of a given dynamical system. Instead of digging into details in abstract setting, I will describe how it looks like in a concrete example. The classical Hamiltonian system I would like to look at is the Hénon-Heiles system, which describes the motions of a star in a galaxy with an axis of symmetry.
